February 2027 was the busiest month of the Chinese year. The feng shui year turned at 立春 (lìchūn) on February 4, the 丁未 (dīng wèi) Fire Goat year began. Chinese New Year fell on February 6. You swapped cures, feasted for a week, welcomed the God of Wealth, celebrated 元宵 (yuánxiāo) on the 20th, and started shifting from winter's black rice to spring's lighter grains. If you kept up with even half of that, your home and body are in far better shape than they were four weeks ago.
This article does two things: it gives you a self-check list for everything that should be in place by now, and it previews March — a month that brings 惊蛰 (jīngzhé, Awakening of Insects) on March 6, 龙抬头 (lóng tái tóu, Dragon Raises Its Head) on March 9, International Women's Day on March 8, and 春分 (chūnfēn, Spring Equinox) on March 20-21. Spring is accelerating. Here is how to keep pace.

Goat Year Self-Check: What Should Be Done by Now
Three and a half weeks into the Goat year. Run through this list. If anything is missing, this weekend is the time to catch up — before March's faster energy arrives.
| Area | Check | If Not Done |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 Flying Star Cures | Metal in the North (Star 5), metal in the West (Star 2), red/Fire in the NE (Star 3), Water element in the East (Star 7) | Do it this weekend. The flying star chart has the full guide. The North is non-negotiable. |
| Tai Sui Awareness | Southwest is quiet — no renovation, no rearranging, no loud activity in that sector | If you have been moving things around in the SW, stop. Leave it undisturbed for the rest of the year. |
| CNY Decorations Down | Red lanterns, spring couplets (春联), and festive decor removed after 元宵 (Feb 20) | Take them down now. Leaving CNY decorations up past the Lantern Festival looks stale and traps the energy of a celebration that has passed. |
| Diet Shift | Moved from heavy winter tonics to lighter spring grains: millet, barley, green toppings | Start the spring congee rotation this Monday. Your Spleen needs the transition. |
| Plants Repositioned | Greenery moved to SE and S sectors; removed from N, NE, W | Use the 2027 plant placement guide and do one walk-through with a compass. |
| Movement Routine | Shifted from winter's gentle conservation to spring's side-opening, qi-moving exercises | The Liver qi stretches take 14 minutes. Start tomorrow morning. |
March Key Dates
| Date | Event | Significance |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday, March 6 | 惊蛰 Jīngzhé (Awakening of Insects) | Third solar term. Thunder traditionally wakes hibernating creatures. The signal to begin deeper spring cleaning and outdoor activation. |
| Monday, March 8 | International Women's Day | Widely observed in Chinese culture. A day for honoring the women in your life and, in feng shui terms, attending to the Kun (坤) sectors — receptive Earth energy. |
| Tuesday, March 9 | 龙抬头 Lóng Tái Tóu (Dragon Raises Its Head) — lunar 2/2 | Yang energy fully awakens. Traditional day for haircuts (shedding winter stagnation), starting new projects, and planting. |
| Saturday-Sunday, March 20-21 | 春分 Chūnfēn (Spring Equinox) | Day and night are equal. Yin and yang in perfect balance. A powerful day for equinox rituals and home-balancing work. Falls on Sunday, March 21 in Beijing time (afternoon of Saturday, March 20 in the US). |
惊蛰 Awakening of Insects (March 6)
惊蛰 (jīngzhé) — literally "startled insects" — is the solar term when the first spring thunder traditionally rumbles and wakes the creatures that slept through winter. In human terms, this is the week your energy shifts from gradual awakening to active engagement. The Liver's Wood energy is now in full swing.
What to Do at 惊蛰
- Begin the spring deep clean. The spring cleaning guide covers the full reset — closets, corners, behind furniture, under beds. 惊蛰 opens the window for this work. The cleaning should be complete by the equinox.
- Eat pears. There is a folk tradition of eating pears (梨 lí) at 惊蛰. The homophone 离 (lí, to separate) carries the wish to separate from illness and pests as the weather warms. In TCM terms, pears moisten the Lung — useful as the air becomes drier and pollen season approaches.
- Increase outdoor time. Walk more, stretch more, engage with the world more. Winter's conservation mandate is fully over. The body wants expansion now — honor it.
- Check for pests. As the name suggests, insects are waking. Check window seals, door thresholds, and the kitchen for any signs of spring pest activity. Address it before it establishes.
龙抬头 Dragon Raises Its Head (March 9)
龙抬头 (lóng tái tóu) falls on the second day of the second lunar month — Tuesday, March 9, 2027. In folk tradition, this is the day the Azure Dragon constellation rises above the eastern horizon at dusk, symbolizing the full awakening of yang energy for the year.
Traditions
- Get a haircut. This is the most widely observed tradition. In many Chinese families, you do not cut your hair during the first lunar month — 龙抬头 lifts that restriction. A haircut on this day symbolizes shedding the old and inviting fresh energy.
- Start new projects. Business launches, new habits, planting, creative projects — 龙抬头 is traditionally an auspicious day for beginnings. If you have been waiting for the right time to start something, this is a strong candidate in the folk tradition.
- Eat popcorn or fried beans. The popping sounds symbolize the dragon's awakening. Fried soybeans (also called "dragon eyes" for this day) are a regional custom.
春分 Spring Equinox (March 20-21)
春分 (chūnfēn) is the midpoint of spring — the day when daylight and darkness are exactly equal. In feng shui and TCM, this is the year's point of perfect yin-yang balance. The equinox falls on Sunday, March 21, 2027 in Beijing time (the afternoon of Saturday, March 20 in the US).
What the Equinox Asks
- Balance your home. Walk the full circuit. Are any sectors over-activated? Under-attended? The equinox is an ideal time for a mid-season audit of your flying star cures and enhancements.
- Balance your diet. By equinox, you should be fully in spring eating mode — lighter grains, green vegetables, pungent toppings, moderate warming. No more heavy winter stews or deep-fried festival foods.
- Balance your schedule. Spring's rising energy can overshoot into busyness and agitation. The equinox is a natural pause point to check: are you expanding in a direction that serves you, or are you just busy?
- Egg standing. A beloved folk tradition: try to stand a raw egg upright on its end at the moment of the equinox. The physics works (barely) because of the even gravitational alignment. The symbolism works because balance is the whole point of the day.
The equinox ritual guide covers a simple home ceremony for the day — a candle, a plant, a moment of stillness at the hinge of the season.
What to Prepare This Week
March moves fast. Here is what to have ready before it arrives:
| Task | Why Now |
|---|---|
| Schedule your spring cleaning | Block a weekend between 惊蛰 (March 6) and the equinox (March 20-21). The spring cleaning window is three weeks. Do not let it pass. |
| Book a haircut for March 9 | If you observe the 龙抬头 haircut tradition, book now — barbers in Chinese communities will be busy. |
| Review your allergy supplies | Pollen season begins in earnest with 惊蛰. If you have seasonal allergies, ensure medications are stocked and the bedroom is dust-free. |
| Start airing the house daily | The airing ritual should become a daily habit by March. Five minutes of cross-breeze each morning. Your home's qi depends on it. |
| Shift exercise outdoors | Walk more. Stretch outside. The Liver craves outdoor space and natural light in its own season. Indoor-only movement is no longer enough. |
February was about arrival — the new year, the new chart, the new season. March is about activation. Everything you set up this month starts working. Keep the cures in place, keep the congee pot going, keep the windows open, and let the Goat year run.
